Double Way Track for Torrelavega-Santander-Astillero

Astillero

Adif’s investment effort in the North of Spain has several ongoing works regarding the infrastructure upgrade for the narrow-gauge line in the region of Cantabria – doubling tracks, sections’ electrification, viaducts reinforcement, Level Crossing suppressions… Within this frame, Adif has awarded the Enyse/Telice joint venture with the contract for the new Signalling and Telecommunication systems of the Torrelavega-Santander-Nueva Montaña and Maliaño-Astillero sections of the line.

The main object of the project is to adapt the existing double track for bidirectional use, as well as equipping the new double track of the current single track section between Nueva Montaña and Maliaño. To that effect, new EiS23 electronic interlockings will be installed at the stations of Torrelavega, Barreda, Requejada, Mogro, Bezana, Adarzo, Nueva Montaña, Maliaño and Astillero. The interlocking at Santaner will be upgraded to interface with the new block system, as well as the interfaces with the line’s collateral stations at Heras and Puente de San Miguel. Connection to the Solvay factory and the crossing with the standard-gauge line will also be taken care of. Except at Santander station, Track-side elements will also be upgraded, with new LED wayside signals, digital ASFA, axle counters and point machines.

On the Telecoms side, a new FO cable will be laid and equipped, along the Telephone system for exploration. New power equipment will also be installed, including Transformation Centres and UPSs. All requested civil works are considered in the project, including the cable path for the new cabling and the new Technical Buildings housing the Signalling Equipment Rooms, expect at Bezana and the end-of-line stations. The line will be included at the Santander CTC, along with a Centralized Maintenance System. Work will be carried out in 6 phases, adaptable to the ongoing infrastructure developments – contingency plans are foreseen for eventual complications in Track, Electrification and other works along the railway.
